What course is interesting to me?

📖 course name
The Science of Happiness
🏫 school
Berkeley

My comments

I used MOOCs before this class to help me learn something. I think it is useful tool for learning something, because I can decide on my study-time by myself. And I can get resources from all over the world not only Taiwan. Thus, if you want to learn something I recommend you can use MOOCs to help you, it is really convenient.

My Comments

Perhaps because we are in a highly competitive environment, sometimes we are eager to succeed. But we seem forgot that our life is a marathon not a sprint, and the enemy of this race are not others but the ones who are unwilling to move forward yourself. Therefore, I believe if you are willing and persistent, you will become a successful person.

week07-English song

R. Kelly - I Believe I Can Fly

I used to think that I could not go on
And life was nothing but an awful song
But now I know the meaning of true love
I'm leaning on the everlasting arms

If I can see it, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it

I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day (Night and day)
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly hoo

See I was on the verge of breaking down
Sometimes silence can seem so loud
There are miracles in life I must achieve
But first I know it starts inside of me, ho oh

If I can see it hoo, then I can be it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it

I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly
Oh, I believe I can fly hoo

Hey, 'cause I believe in me, oh

If I can see it hoo, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it hey

I believe I can fly hoo
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly (I can fly)
I believe I can fly (I can fly)
I believe I can fly (I can fly) hey

If I just spread my wings (I can fly)
I can fly (I can fly)
I can fly (I can fly)
I can fly,(I can fly) hey
If I just spread my wings (I can fly)
I can fly (I can fly)
(I can fly)
(I can fly)

Song Story

Kelly wrote this for Space Jam, which was a kid's movie starring Michael Jordan in a world of cartoons (including Bugs Bunny). The song was much more popular than the movie and became an inspirational anthem often played at weddings and used in video tributes.

Speaking to The Boombox, Kelly revealed his creative process for this song: "When I met Michael Jordan on a basketball court at an athletic club - we hooped together in Chicago - he came to me and asked me if I wanted to do a song for his upcoming movie. I was like, 'Yeah!' I didn't even ask what it was. [Eventually] he let me know what it was, we went to a screening to watch it and that's when I ended up coming up with 'I Believe I Can Fly.' I knew from the first melody that was gonna be the song that was gonna take me out of R&B and into another genre of music."

Kelly added that the Notorious B.I.G. came around while he was writing the song and immediately saw its hit potential. "I was in a hotel in a deep sleep, so I kinda dreamt that melody," he recalled. "I went down to the lobby and had the security unlock the piano because it was locked. I started messing around with three-finger chords to give myself a guide with the melody. And I started hearing… [hums the melody of 'I Believe I Can Fly']. I had a lot of 'duh duh duhs' before I actually wrote what it is. But after spending two hours at that piano, watching a whole 'lotta women and men coming in back and forth, I was over in that corner on that piano. By the time Biggie came in [the hotel] it was like two hours later, I had [begins singing] 'I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky, I think about it every night and day, spread my wings and fly away' - I had about that much. He was like, 'Oh, B, that's a big hit, son.' And it ended up being exactly that."

Award: 1997 Grammy  Best Male R&B Vocal Performance / Best R&B Song / Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or for Television

Why I like the song?

You have to believe in yourself. That's the secret of success.——Charles Chaplin , American actor

I'm not a confident person, but I agree completely that people must trust yourself. It’s impossible to be a successful person if you merely keep the faith and don’t do anything, but when you believe in yourself, you can gain more strength to persist, and more courage to face and break through difficulties. Therefore, I listen some inspirational song when I began to deny myself. And this song is one of them. It conveys to people that if you believe in yourself, you can do it! It is a very positive song.

Week05-The Greatest Invention

“Technology comes from human nature.” I believe everyone familiar with this slogan. In order to more convenient life people tend to invent something to help themselves. And I think Internet is absolutely one of the greatest invention for humans. It lets information and resources can be delivered quickly and immediately nowadays. Although this may cause many people to have "Internet Addiction Disorder", but In my opinion, if without Internet many modern habits and business models will also disappear, such as on-line shopping and live stream etc. Therefore, it can’t be denied that Internet has truly changed our lives. We seem can't live in a world without it!
